Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has called on members of the Hausa community in Akwanga Local Government Area to fully participate in the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, scheduled to commence on Monday at Akwanga Central Primary School.
The Governor made the appeal while hosting a delegation from the Hausa community in Akwanga on a solidarity visit to the Government House, Lafia, on Tuesday.
He expressed concern over low voter turnout among the Hausa population in the area and urged them to register new voters, update existing voter cards, and, where necessary, change polling units as allowed by law.
Governor Sule stressed that active participation in the electoral process is key to attracting more development projects, adding that the community’s stronger turnout in the 2023 presidential election could have influenced Nasarawa’s voting outcome in favour of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Commending the peaceful coexistence of the Hausa community with other ethnic groups in Akwanga, the Governor appreciated their show of gratitude for political appointments granted to members of their community.
He assured them of inclusivity in governance, irrespective of political affiliation, and emphasized the importance of both western and Islamic education.
On calls for him to contest the Nasarawa North Senatorial seat in 2027, Governor Sule thanked the community for their confidence but maintained that his current focus remains on delivering his present mandate.
Earlier, delegation leader Hon. Lawal Abdullahi lauded the Governor’s development strides and inclusive appointments, reaffirming the Hausa community’s support for his political aspirations. Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Utilities, Hon. Mohammed Musa Akwanga, said the visit aimed to foster unity among the Hausa community in Akwanga.
Prayers for the Governor’s success were offered by the Chief Imam of Akwanga, Mallam Ibrahim Musa.
