Nigeria’s Super Falcons have once again etched their name in African football history by winning a record-extending 10th CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title, defeating host nation Morocco 3–2 in a pulsating final at the Stade Olympique in Rabat.
The match began with early dominance from the Atlas Lionesses of Morocco, as Ghizlane Chebbak netted the opener in the 12th minute, followed by a second goal from Sanaa Mssoudy in the 24th minute, putting the hosts 2–0 up at halftime.
But the resilient Falcons mounted a remarkable second-half comeback. Esther Okoronkwo converted a VAR-awarded penalty in the 64th minute to narrow the gap.
Seven minutes later, Chinaza Ijamilusi equalized, leveling the score at 2–2. The final blow came in the 88th minute when Jennifer Echegini fired home the winning goal, completing one of the most dramatic turnarounds in WAFCON history.
This latest triumph cements Nigeria’s position as the most successful team in the tournament’s history, having now won all ten finals in which they have appeared.
The Super Falcons’ performance not only showcased their championship pedigree but also sent a clear message of dominance and determination to the rest of the continent.
