The Nasarawa State Government has concluded arrangements for the establishment of a military super-camp in Katakpa, Toto Local Government Area, as part of efforts to enhance peace and security in the region.
This was made known on Monday during an inspection visit to the proposed site by the Executive Chairman of Toto LGA, Pharm. Ahmed Baba Yahaya, alongside top military, police, and other security officials.
During the visit, the delegation assessed both the level of peace and the suitability of the location for the military installation.
The Chairman commended the Katakpa community for sustaining peace since the return of displaced persons over the past three months.
"We are here today to assess the land proposed for the establishment of a military camp.
The visit is to evaluate the suitability of the location and facilitate necessary arrangements," Yahaya stated.
He disclosed that, in addition to the planned military camp, the local government will sink boreholes in the area to address lingering water supply challenges.
Yahaya emphasized that these initiatives are in line with Governor Abdullahi Sule’s administration’s commitment to sustaining peace and development in Toto LGA.
As part of the visit, the delegation also inspected a local government-owned rice farm spanning over 100 hectares.
The Chairman reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to boosting food security and called on residents to embrace farming as a tool for economic empowerment and food sufficiency.
Hon. Ahmed Mohammad Nura, Councilor representing Katakpa, expressed gratitude on behalf of the community to Governor Sule, the LG Chairman, and security agencies for their intervention. He noted that peace has gradually returned to the area, and residents are now coexisting peacefully, free from tension and fear.
The establishment of the military camp is expected to serve as a significant boost to security operations in the area and contribute to the long-term stability and development of Katakpa and its environs.
