Nigeria’s Vice President, Senator Kashim Shattima, has paid a glowing tribute to the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as a symbol of integrity, discipline, and selfless service to the nation.
Writing on his official Facebook handle, Vice President Shattima reflected on the legacy of the former leader, stating that only a few Nigerians have had the rare privilege of standing at the crossroads of the nation’s most defining moments , and Muhammadu Buhari was undoubtedly one of them.
“From the battlefield to the ballot box, he answered Nigeria’s call with courage and conviction. He fought not for personal gain but for the stability and unity of our country,” Shettima wrote.
The Vice President described Buhari as more than a statesman, a symbol of moral strength, ascetic lifestyle, and a refusal to compromise on principles, even under pressure.
“To me and to many others, he was the archetype of principled leadership: disciplined, focused, and immune to distractions.
His life was a masterclass in servant leadership,” Shettima noted.
According to him, Buhari’s leadership journey was defined by humility and grace, entering office with modesty and leaving it without fanfare, yet leaving behind a powerful legacy of honesty and simplicity.
“As we mourn his passing, we are not merely bidding farewell to a leader. We are saying goodbye to a compass , one who showed us that values like honesty and national fidelity are not outdated but remain blueprints for a more honourable future,” Shattima added.
Expressing personal gratitude, the Vice President noted that he learned valuable lessons from the late President and urged Nigerians to carry forward the virtues Buhari embodied.
He concluded his tribute with a prayer: “May Allah forgive his shortcomings, reward his service, and grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus. Ameen.”
