Wednesday, May 14th, 2025, Dr Kassim Muh'd Kassim officially assumed office as the Chairman/Chief Executive of Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board, NSUBEB. His appointment by Governor Abdullahi Sule, confirmed by the Nasarawa State House of Assembly on the 28th April 2025, marks the beginning of a five years tenure to shape the future of Nasarawa children through the provision of quality basic education.
With a distinguished career spanning academia in both Primary, secondary and tertiary institutions as well as building a fruitful career in politics, Dr Kassim brings a wealth of experience to the role, positioning him as a driving force in the educational sub-sector's developmental trajectory.
Born in Lagos, and raised in Nasarawa State, Dr Kassim's academic foundation was laid at the College of Education, Akwanga, Nasarawa State University, Keffi and the University of Ghana where he obtained NCE, B.Sc, MEd, MBA, MSc, TRC and PhD respectively.
A seasoned teacher, turn politician with years of experience, Dr Kassim has mentored generations of students across different institutions and has raise a lot of young politicians.
His track record in leadership and administration is as remarkable as his contributions to the political development of Nasarawa State having served in different capacities, as Senior Special Assistants ,Special Adviser to three different Governors.
Between 2015-2019, Dr Kassim served as Member, Nasarawa State House of Assembly representing Akwanga South State Constituency and chaired several sensitive committees.
As he settles down, Dr Kassim has assured that his administration would be mark by strategic reforms, infrastructural development, and improved structures of the board. As a firm believer in teamwork and innovation, he has set up machineries in place to champion policies that will drive the educational sub-sector's growth while upholding the highest standards of integrity.
The office of the Executive Chairman is central to the Educational Sub-sector's advancement, overseeing infrastructural expansion, partnerships and coordination of the day-to-day running of the board activities.
This office plays a crucial role in shaping the future of Nasarawa children by ensuring that every child of school age is not denied basic education. He has since declared that parents whose children are of school age in the State risk legal sanction if they fail to send their children to school.
Dr Kassim is fully aware that education remains the best legacy to give a child, he has since vowed to implement ambitious basic education reforms in Nasarawa State, and has consistently told those who care to listen that he will stop at nothing to ensure that his vision for basic education is implemented.
The former Assembly member has equally warm those who think that their privileges, perquisites and entitlements should come before the need to equip the next generation with the ability to compete in a world that is changing faster than we can comprehend to have a rethink.
The new NSUBEB chairman believes that quality basic education is the right path to enables the poor to move out of poverty by the sheer force of determination, application of knowledge and hard work.
As Dr Kassim settles down to implement his vision in line with the educational policies of Governor Abdullahi Sule's administration, the rest of Nasarawa residents and Nigeria at large are closely watching how he pursues his reforms.
