The Nasarawa State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening partnerships with private media organizations to enhance the effective coverage of government programmes and promote transparency.
Commissioner for Information, Culture, and Tourism, Dr. Ibrahim Tanko, gave the assurance when he received members of the Association of Private Media Owners during a courtesy visit to his office on Shendam Road, Lafia.
Dr. Tanko, while expressing appreciation for the visit, charged media owners to remain objective in their reportage and avoid sensationalism, noting that responsible journalism is vital to sustaining peace and unity in the state.
He emphasized the government’s willingness to deepen collaboration with private media platforms to drive improved information dissemination and support the state’s socio-economic development agenda.
Earlier, Chairman of the Association, Dr. Nawani Aboki, commended the Ministry for its longstanding support and reaffirmed the association’s readiness to partner with the government in promoting credible and balanced reporting.
Dr. Aboki highlighted key challenges confronting the print media, including high operational costs and declining readership, and appealed for government intervention through subsidies on printing services at the State Printing Press.
He also requested the inclusion of private media personnel in capacity-building initiatives and unrestricted access to cover Government House activities.
Responding, Dr. Tanko assured the association of continuous engagement and pledged to explore viable measures to address their concerns.
