The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting environmental safety and standards through legislative backing and strategic partnerships. This assurance was given by the Chairman of the House Committee on Environment, Hon. Mohammed Adamu Omadefu, during a courtesy visit by the new State Coordinator of the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), Dr. Daniel Terwase, at the Assembly Complex in Lafia on Wednesday.
Hon. Omadefu (APC, Keana) emphasized the importance of aligning the state’s environmental practices with global best standards, noting that the Assembly is ready to enact laws that will strengthen environmental governance across the state. He assured NESREA of the legislature’s full cooperation and support in implementing environmental policies and programmes that will benefit the people of Nasarawa State.
While welcoming Dr. Terwase to the state, the lawmaker applauded the agency’s proactive role in addressing environmental issues and expressed optimism that the partnership would yield positive results. He also commended the newly presented policy framework and assured NESREA of a robust collaboration to achieve its mandate.
In his remarks, Dr. Daniel Terwase said his visit was to formally introduce himself to key stakeholders and outline his vision for transforming the state’s environmental sector. He acknowledged the critical role of the legislature and commended Hon. Omadefu and the House Committee on Environment for their active oversight, particularly in monitoring mining activities and promoting sustainable environmental practices.
Dr. Terwase praised the committee’s dedication and effectiveness, expressing confidence that the collaboration between NESREA and the State Assembly would significantly advance environmental protection efforts in Nasarawa State.
