The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Nasarawa State has described the successful affirmation of its governorship candidate, former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu (Rtd.), as a historic milestone that has further strengthened the party’s resolve to rescue and rebuild the state.
The party stated this in a press statement signed by High Chief Otaru Douglas, Director, Media and Strategic Communications, IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu (Rtd.) Campaign Organization, and issued in Lafia on September 5, 2026.
According to the statement, the affirmation, which took place in Lafia, has put to rest what it described as “endless speculations, rumours and mischievous machinations” allegedly aimed at distracting the SDP and confusing the people of Nasarawa State.
It said the massive turnout and unanimous voice vote recorded during the exercise demonstrated the unity, focus and determination of the SDP ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The campaign organisation said the people of Nasarawa State had demonstrated resilience and commitment to changing the governance narrative of the state, stressing that they had chosen competence, experience, integrity and proven leadership.
The statement also took a swipe at the opposition, saying the overwhelming affirmation of Adamu should compel the ruling party to recognise what it described as a growing desire for political change in the state.
“We believe it is time for the APC in Nasarawa State to begin preparing its handover notes, even before the elections,” the statement said.
The campaign organisation commended the SDP state executive, local government and ward executives, delegates, women and youth leaders, as well as members of the party for their support for Adamu.
It alleged that party members resisted pressure, blackmail and monetary inducements allegedly deployed by individuals and government agents to frustrate the affirmation exercise.
The organisation further appealed to the people of Nasarawa State to support Adamu, describing him as a candidate who represents security, order, inclusion and purposeful governance.
It urged SDP members to return to their respective units and wards and intensify mobilisation, while declaring that the party remained open to all Nigerians who desired genuine change in Nasarawa State.
The statement concluded by saying the journey to “rescue and rebuild Nasarawa State” had officially begun.
