By Suleiman Abubakar Rimi Uku

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has adopted former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, as its candidate for the 2027 Nasarawa State governorship election.

Adamu was presented to party members and supporters following the conduct of the party’s governorship primary election in the state.
Declaring the outcome of the exercise, the SDP electoral committee said the primary was conducted across the wards in the 13 Local Government Areas of Nasarawa State, with the results subsequently collated at the respective local government councils.

The committee said a total of 28,637 delegates participated in the exercise and cast their votes.
It declared that the exercise was conducted peacefully, lawfully, freely, fairly and credibly, culminating in the emergence of Mohammed Abubakar Adamu as the party’s governorship candidate and flag-bearer.

Speaking after his emergence, Adamu expressed delight over the successful conduct of the primary, promising to work tirelessly to transform Nasarawa State if elected governor.

He said his administration would focus on improving governance, infrastructure, healthcare, agriculture and the development of the state’s mineral resources.

Adamu said his government would pay particular attention to roads in rural communities, noting that many roads in the hinterlands had been neglected.

He also promised to provide accessible healthcare not only in urban centres but also in rural areas across the state.

On agriculture, the SDP candidate described Nasarawa as an agrarian state with vast arable land, promising massive investment in the sector to boost food production and improve the livelihoods of residents.

He equally pledged to review the exploitation of the state’s mineral resources to ensure that the people of Nasarawa derive greater benefits from the resources.

Adamu said the party would be specific during its campaign, explaining its programmes and policies to the people on a local government-by-local government basis.

Also speaking at the event, the SDP leadership described the occasion as historic for the party and Nasarawa State.
The party commended Adamu’s record of service as a former Inspector-General of Police, describing him as a disciplined and experienced public servant committed to the rule of law.

The SDP leadership urged members to unite and mobilise support for the party’s candidates at the presidential, senatorial, House of Representatives and State Assembly levels.

It also expressed confidence in the electoral process and called on voters to exercise their franchise during the 2027 elections.

The party urged its members across Nasarawa State to remain committed to the SDP’s campaign for what it described as a new direction in governance.
