In a vibrant display of cultural pride and unity, the 2025 Omele Annual Cultural Festival held at the prestigious Abaga Palace in Garaku, Kokona Local Government Area, witnessed the distinguished presence of key government officials and community leaders.
Leading the delegation was the Honourable Commissioner for Education in Nasarawa State, Dr. John D. W. Mamman, whose commitment to educational and cultural development continues to resonate across the state. He was joined by the member representing Kokona East at the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Honourable Oga Ogazi, a respected lawmaker known for his grassroots advocacy and legislative engagement.
Also in attendance was the Executive Chairman of Kokona Local Government Council, Honourable Agbawu Mek Agbawu, who has been at the forefront of promoting local governance, community development, and cultural preservation within the council area.
The presence of these high-profile personalities at the festival added prestige and value to the occasion, underscoring the state government’s unwavering support for cultural revival and the promotion of traditional institutions as pillars of peace and identity.
Speaking during the event, Dr. John Mamman commended the Abaga of Garaku and the Omele Cultural Organising Committee for sustaining a platform that showcases the rich heritage of the people. He emphasized the importance of cultural festivals in fostering social cohesion, unity, and moral values among the younger generation.
Hon. Ogazi reiterated the need to protect indigenous customs and traditions, calling on youths to take pride in their roots and participate actively in cultural activities. Similarly, Hon. Agbawu Mek expressed his administration’s commitment to supporting cultural events that promote peace, tourism, and communal identity in Kokona and beyond.
The 2025 edition of the Omele Cultural Festival featured colourful traditional performances, music, dances, masquerade displays, and an outpouring of hospitality, all aimed at celebrating the diverse cultural values of the Kokona people.
The event brought together traditional rulers, political leaders, youth groups, women organisations, and visitors from within and outside the state, reflecting the cultural richness and unity of the Nasarawa people.
