In a landmark move aimed at fostering equity, transparency, and regional balance, the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Nasarawa State Chapter, has unveiled a series of transformative resolutions to reshape youth leadership across the state.
The decisions were reached at the NYCN Management Committee Meeting held on April 30, 2025, at the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Lafia. The meeting witnessed full representation from the State Caretaker Committee, Local Government and Development Area Coordinators, the Ministry for Youth and Sports Development, and the NYCN National Leadership.
Chairmanship Zoned to Akwanga for Equity and Fairness
In a deliberate move to uphold the principles of fairness and rotational leadership, the council has zoned the coveted position of State Chairman to the Nasarawa North Senatorial Zone (Akwanga). This decision underscores NYCN's commitment to inclusivity and the fair distribution of leadership opportunities across the state.
Electoral Committee Inaugurated to Ensure Transparent Transition
A five-member Electoral Committee has been inaugurated to oversee the transition process. The committee draws membership from the three senatorial zones, alongside representatives from the Ministry and the NYCN National Secretariat. The members include:
Liman Mainoma – Lafia Zone
Emmanuel Raphael – Akwanga Zone
Abuhuraira Ibrahim Otto – Keffi Zone
The committee is expected to uphold the tenets of integrity, fairness, and democratic values as it steers the process toward a smooth and credible election.
Swearing-In Slated for May 2
The newly constituted committee will be officially sworn in on Friday, May 2, 2025.
This event is expected to mark the beginning of a new era in youth representation, innovation, and development in Nasarawa State.
According to Attama Ibrahim Abdullahi, Secretary of the Caretaker Committee, the resolutions were made by the apex decision-making body of NYCN Nasarawa State Chapter. He called on all youth groups, stakeholders, and development partners to support the new leadership structure as the state prepares for a free, fair, and inclusive election.
"The time for action is now. The future belongs to the youth, and together, we will shape it," he stated.
