The Governor of Nasarawa State, His Excellency Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule, has commended the Federal Government of Nigeria for the ongoing dualization of the Keffi–Akwanga–Lafia road, describing it as a major milestone in national infrastructure development under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Governor Sule made the remarks during the maiden edition of the Mid-Term Review Meeting on the implementation of the resolutions from the 29th National Council on Works (NCW), held at the Government House, Lafia, Nasarawa State.
He highlighted that the dualization project, along with approvals for the construction of flyovers and underpasses in Keffi, Akwanga, and Lafia, are significantly transforming the state’s road network and driving economic growth.
The governor further appealed to the Federal Government to prioritize additional road projects, including:
Keffi–Nasarawa–Toto road
Lafia–Doma–Rafin Gabas road (linking the FCT)
Akwanga–Wamba road (connecting Taraba State)
In his remarks, the Honourable Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, represented by the Minister of State for Works, Bello Muhammad Goronyo, Esq., emphasized that the review meeting aimed to track the progress of decisions reached at the Abakaliki meeting and strengthen coordination between Federal and State Governments in infrastructure delivery.
In a related development, the Niger State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Hon. Suleiman Umar, called on the Federal Government to sustain its partnership with states for improved road networks nationwide. He revealed that Niger State, under Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, has undertaken the construction of 250 kilometers of federal roads within the state and has ongoing 5-kilometer road projects in all 25 Local Government Areas.
The Commissioner made a passionate appeal for the reimbursement of funds expended by the Niger State Government on these federal road projects.
Delegates from Niger State included the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, QS Hassan Baba Etsu; the Managing Director of NIGROMA, Engr. Faruk Audi; Director of Civil Engineering Services, Engr. Kudu Madami; Director of PRS, QS Ashiya Alfa; and Head of Public Relations, Comrade Ismaila Saba Favu.
The meeting marked a renewed commitment among stakeholders to ensuring that Nigeria’s road infrastructure aligns with national economic development goals.
