In a recent statement, the Patriotic Coalition, an alliance of various Obidient groups and associations in Edo State, has issued a strong warning concerning potential electoral manipulation in the forthcoming state elections.
The coalition has called on key figures including the Inspector General of Police, the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), military leaders, and the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure that security agencies are not used to influence the electoral process unfairly.
Expressing growing concerns over the possible misuse of state security apparatus to favor certain political interests, the Patriotic Coalition urged civil society organizations and international observers to focus their attention on Edo State.
The coalition emphasized the need for the elections to be conducted with transparency and without intimidation from state actors.
Edo State, known for its strong political consciousness and active voter participation, is preparing for a closely-watched electoral contest. The people of the state, according to the coalition, will not accept any attempts to compromise their right to a free and fair election.
The group called for the protection of democracy and urged the government to foster an environment where the electoral process is respected, free from harassment or coercion.
