In a significant breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking, the Nasarawa State Police Command has apprehended a suspected drug trafficker and seized a substantial quantity of illegal substances.

On August 31, 2024, at approximately 1300 hours, police officers arrested a 43-year-old man, identified as Saturday Gabriel from Edo State, while one other suspect managed to escape.

The arrest took place in the Gadabuke area of Toto Local Government Area, Nasarawa State.

The police recovered a Toyota Camry with registration number Lagos KSF 843 FN, along with 15 bags of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp from the vehicle, which is believed to be the suspects' operational vehicle.

The arrest was made following a tip-off that a suspicious vehicle with two occupants was heading towards the Nasarawa Toto axis.

Acting swiftly on this information, police personnel from the Toto Division were strategically deployed to intercept the vehicle.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Shehu Nadada, has ordered the case to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Lafia for further action.

The case will be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for additional investigation and prosecution.

DSP Ramhan Nansel, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Nasarawa State Command, confirmed the arrest and recovery of the illegal substances, reaffirming the command's commitment to combating drug-related crimes in the state.
