The Lagos State Football Association (LSFA) is on the verge of making football history with a series of landmark initiatives aimed at transforming the football ecosystem in the state. Under the leadership of Hajji Gafar Liameed, the LSFA board met with over 100 football league club representatives and stakeholders at the Ivory Health Club in Ikeja, Lagos, to address pressing issues concerning football development.

One of the key concerns raised was the lack of adequate sports facilities in the state. The FA, in a diplomatic move, successfully averted a planned protest by over 5,000 footballers who intended to march to the Lagos State Governor's office in protest. Instead, the stakeholders were convinced to sign a letter of appeal to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, which will be forwarded through the Director-General of the Lagos State Sports Commission.

In addition to resolving this issue, the LSFA unveiled a set of progressive initiatives designed to create a thriving football business environment in Lagos. These include the introduction of a 'Football Clubs Indemnity Account' to ensure regular payment of salaries to players and coaches, an unprecedented move in Nigerian football administration. The association also announced plans for a comprehensive insurance scheme to safeguard the welfare of players and coaches.

Ahead of the LSFA's Annual General Assembly and Football Townhall Meeting on September 21, 2024, Hajji Gafar encouraged football operators to communicate their concerns through the FA's secretariat for swift and professional assistance. Prominent football administrator Godwin Enakhena lauded the LSFA board for its visionary efforts and urged all stakeholders to support local clubs in the state.

These initiatives signal a new era for football in Lagos, positioning the state as a leader in football governance and development in Nigeria.
