During his tenure, former People's Democratic Party (PDP) chairman of Nasarawa State, Chief Yunana Iliya Kuyambanan Karu, took significant steps to promote inclusivity and support various communities across the state.
In a bid to foster unity and empower local leaders, he distributed a total of 40 motorcycles to different ethnic and religious groups.
The distribution breakdown was as follows:
- Igbura Chiefs: 5 motorcycles
- Gade Chiefs: 5 motorcycles
- Gbagyi People: 5 motorcycles
- Bassa Chiefs: 5 motorcycles
- Igbo Community: 1 motorcycle
- Yoruba Community: 1 motorcycle
- Fulani Community: 1 motorcycle
- Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN): 1 motorcycle
- Jamatul Nasrul Islam: 1 motorcycle
- Afo People in Nasarawa: 2 motorcycles
- Hausa People in Nasarawa: 2 motorcycles
- Agatu People: 2 motorcycles
- Gbagyi People: 2 additional motorcycles
This initiative, undertaken in 2009, was a gesture to signify that the people of Nasarawa had one of their own leading the party at the state level, reinforcing Karu’s commitment to the diverse communities.
In 2011, Chief Iliya continued his legacy of grassroots empowerment by distributing knitting and sewing machines across the five local governments of the western zone.
This move was aimed at fostering economic self-reliance and supporting small-scale industries in rural areas.
Chief Iliya actions during his tenure reflect a leadership philosophy deeply rooted in representation, unity, and tangible support for communities.
His efforts have left a lasting impact on the socio-economic fabric of Nasarawa State.
