MOAUM VC, Alabar, Prioritises Staff, Students’ Welfare, Infrastructure
The Vice-Chancellor of Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi (MOAUM), Prof. Timothy Alabar, has identified the welfare of students and staff, alongside infrastructural development, as the major priorities of his administration.
Alabar stated this on Monday in Makurdi while presenting the six-month scorecard of his administration, highlighting key achievements and initiatives since assuming office.
The Vice-Chancellor said his administration was committed to creating a conducive environment for effective teaching and learning, stressing that the welfare of students and staff remained central to achieving the university’s vision.
“My vision is for the university to be among the top, and it is driven by vigour.
“I am committed to creating a conducive environment for both teaching and learning.
“We have initiated programmes where we engage students in constructive dialogue as partners,” he said.
Alabar disclosed that the achievements of his administration within the period under review were recorded across five key areas, including academic development, research, community service, physical development and engagement initiatives.
He further revealed that, as part of measures to promote academic excellence and reward hard work, the University Council had approved the retention of students who emerged as the best graduating students of their respective sets.
According to him, five academic programmes secured full accreditation within the first six months of his administration, while two other programmes obtained interim accreditation.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Member George-Genyi, said the welfare of students and staff, as well as the provision of functional infrastructure, remained among the Vice-Chancellor’s major concerns.
George-Genyi commended the administration’s engagement with stakeholders, noting that such interactions had created opportunities for stakeholders to contribute their views and perspectives towards the development of the university.
She pledged the continued and unalloyed support of the university’s staff for the Vice-Chancellor’s administration.
Earlier, the Director of Information, Protocol and Public Relations (IPPR), Funmilayo Tolufashe, described the media as an indispensable partner in the development of the institution.
Tolufashe said the media played a critical role in projecting the university’s activities, achievements and image to the outside world.
She assured that the university would continue to strengthen its relationship with the media while making deliberate efforts to reposition the institution across various fronts.
