FC Nwosu Triumphs in Spectacular Nigeria Ex-Internationals Cup Finale

Lagos, Nigeria — The maiden edition of the Nigeria Ex-Internationals Cup 2024, organized by the Lagos State Football Association (LSFA), concluded in spectacular fashion on Sunday at the prestigious Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Lagos.

In a thrilling final match, FC Nwosu emerged victorious over FC Ekpo, winning 6-5 in a dramatic penalty shootout after a goalless 90 minutes. Goalkeeper Samuel Oriola of FC Nwosu played a pivotal role, saving two penalties and securing the giant trophy and a grand prize of N2 million for his team.

Demonstrating a commitment to excellence, the organizers ensured that prize monies were distributed just hours after the final whistle. 

The winners received N2 million, N1 million, N500,000, and N250,000 for the first to fourth-placed teams, respectively. 

The prompt payouts delighted the recipients, who expressed profound gratitude.

LSFA Chairman Hajji Gafar Olawale Liameed praised the successful execution of the tournament, noting that it set a new standard for football organization in Nigeria. He extended thanks to sponsors and partners, including Bet9ja, Mavlon Football Club, Owu Sportswear, Brila FM, Sporting Lagos' Sola Akinlade, Liigi League, Olafiranye Sports Foundation, and Mahmud Dawodu.

Hon. Kunle Soname, CEO/President of Bet9ja and Value Jet, was notably impressed by the tournament's organization and pledged increased support for future editions.

The finals, characterized by excitement and glamour, were attended by prominent figures in Nigerian football, including NFF 1st Vice-President Chief Felix Anyansi-Agwu, NFF 2nd Vice-President Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye, NNL Chairman George Aluo, and various state FA chairmen from across the country.
