Armed bandits reportedly invaded four communities in Dekara District of Borgu Emirate, Niger State, on Friday, May 29, 2026, and distributed millions of naira to residents with instructions to purchase specified food items and supplies for them within a stipulated deadline.
The incident was disclosed by the District Head of Dekara, who said the armed men emerged from the Kainji Lake National Park axis before entering the affected communities.
According to a post on community social media platforms, the bandits handed over different sums of money to each community and ordered residents to procure foodstuffs, beverages, fuel and other household items. The communities were reportedly warned of consequences should they fail to comply with the directive.
The district head said Dekara Village Area received ₦3.8 million from the bandits and was instructed to purchase 10 bags of sugar, 10 jerrycans of red oil, five jerrycans of vegetable oil, five cartons of Maggi seasoning, five bags of salt, 10 cartons each of spaghetti, noodles, Mamuda products, Klin detergent, five bags of rice and 10 cartons of Cowbell milk.
Similarly, Gbenji-Gidazana Village Area was reportedly given ₦3.8 million and directed to procure the same quantity of items.
Kpeya-Biyan Village Area was handed ₦2.3 million and ordered to supply 50 jerrycans of petrol, five jerrycans each of red and vegetable oil, two cartons of Lipton tea, five bags of rice, five cartons of Maggi seasoning and five bags of flour.
The bandits also reportedly gave ₦2.3 million to Giragbasso-Imile Village Area with instructions to purchase the same items listed for Kpeya-Biyan.
The District Head of Dekara said the matter had been reported to the appropriate security agencies and government authorities for urgent intervention.
He expressed concern over the growing activities of armed groups around communities bordering the Kainji Lake National Park and called on security agencies to take proactive measures to prevent possible attacks and protect residents.
As of the time of filing this report, there was no official statement from security authorities regarding the incident.
