Today marks the commencement of World NGO Day, and we are delighted to kick off this event with a press conference.The Concept of NGO Day is global initiative initiated by social entreprenuer marcis Liors Skadmanis in 2009. First observed on February 27,2014, this significant day is dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the outstanding contributions of non governmental and nonprofit organizations, as well as the individuals who drive positive change
in society throughout the year.
The inception of world NGO Day in 2010 marked the initiation of an annual tradtion that highlights the impactful work carried out by NGOs worldwide. it serves as a platform to
advocate for policies supporting the endeavors. The Baltic Sea NGO Forum proposed this meaningful day in 2010, and it was officially accepted in 2012.
On this international NGO Day in 2024, our focus centers on the theme "Buidding a Sustainable
Future: The Role of NGOs Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Non governmental organiations play a pivotal role in championing human rights women's rights,
and environmental protection gobally as we address global challenges.
In Nasarawa. under the adept leadership of Governor Abdullahi A. Sule, we express confidence in the NGOs tirelessly serving our people. These organizations have been instrumental in
enhancing the have been instrumental in enchanting the lives of Nasarawa State residents, providing essential support to meet their basic
needs.
To the members of the press, I stand before you today with deep gratitude for your indispensable role in raising awareness about the crucial work undertaken by NGOs globally. As Commissioner, I recognize the influential power of the media in shaping public opinion and
driving positive change. Your commitment to reporting on NGO endeavors amplfes their
voices and fosters understanding within the wider community.
NGOS are unsung heroes tirelessly working to uplift marginalized communities, protect the environment, and advocate for human rights. Journalists, lke yourselves, serve as crucial conduits, ensuring that their stories resonate with the public, garnering support, and fostering a
sense of shared responsiblity.
Your dedication to truth an ! unbiased reporting significantly contribute, to the democratic
process by holding organizations and individuals accountable. Your investigative efforts
iluminate issues that might otherwise remain hidden, empowering the publc to make informed decisions and inspiring positive action.
As we celebrate international NGO Day, let us reaffirrm our commitment to collaborate.NGOs and the

As we commemorate the inaugural NGO Day in Nasarawa state we extend a call to action to all

with the goals of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The commitment of the Nasarawa State Government to NGOS remains steadfast and is poised to grow even stronger through enhanced partnerships and increased support for NGOs operating with the state. The establishment of Ministry of Special Duties on Humanitarian Social Services, and NGOs signifies our dedication to overseeing and facilitating
the activities of these crucial organizations.
