The Chairman of the Delta State Internal Revenue Service (DSIRS), Honorable Solomon Ighrakpata, has revealed ambitious plans to bolster the state's Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), targeting a staggering N130 billion for the fiscal year 2024.
During a recent address at the DSIRS headquarters in Warri, Hon. Ighrakpata highlighted the significant growth of the state's IGR, soaring from N84 billion in 2022 to N114 billion in 2023, showcasing a commendable increase of over N30 billion. He underscored the administration's commitment to surpassing the N130 billion projection set for 2024.
The chairman emphasized the implementation of strategies to combat tax avoidance and evasion, particularly focusing on the informal sector. He stressed the importance of citizens fulfilling their civic duty by paying taxes promptly, citing constitutional and legal provisions.
Moreover, Hon. Ighrakpata emphasized the utilization of funds for infrastructural development across the state's three senatorial districts. He pointed to ongoing projects, including the construction of flyovers, road expansions, and pedestrian bridges, as evidence of prudent resource allocation.
Acknowledging the pivotal role of the Delta State Orientation Bureau, he called for collaboration in educating the populace on tax compliance and government initiatives. Hon. Ighrakpata assured continued support and synergy between DSIRS and DSOB for effective sensitization campaigns.
In response, Dr. Latimore Oghenesivbe, Head of the State Orientation Bureau, expressed commitment to enhancing public awareness on tax responsibilities. He outlined plans for media campaigns and community engagements to foster understanding and cooperation.
The alignment of efforts between DSIRS and DSOB signifies a concerted drive towards achieving revenue targets and fostering socio-economic development across Delta State.
