Nasarawa Commissioner Calls for Action during 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence

As The 16 Days of Activism 
Against Gender Based Violence is observed annually from 25th November to 10th December, under the auspices of the United Nations, to step up action and activities to eliminate gender based violence, Nasarawa state commissioner for women Affairs  and Social Development Hajiya Aishatu Ruffai Ibrahim   has called on individuals, groups, organizations and government agencies, to contribute to raising awareness about the ills and devastating consequences of this pervasive social menace, on the human rights; physical; emotional; health; social and psychological wellbeing of women and girls in the society.

In a press statement made available to peoples Daily in Lafia the state capital reads" The Theme for this year’s observance, which is “UNITE! Invest To Prevent Violence Against Women and Girls,” request all to ensure adequate funding for prevention strategies and proactive actions to end Violence Against Women and Girls..

The statement added that, the Ministry  urges all victims and survivors of violence to speak out, while also denouncing the culture of silence, tolerance, inaction, and victim blaming by individuals, families, community leaders and institutions, which further dehumanize the victim, while breeding a culture of impunity by perpetrators.!

She applauded the  state government and the state House Assembly for their actions  taken in case of violence against women and Girls which has yielded positive result in fishing out the perpetrator to the existing Law of the state.

Aishatu further assured Women and Girls of the state government"s commitment and protection under the leadership of Governor Abdullahi Sule as well as implored people to see
say no to violence against women and Girls by reporting any act to the Authority concern for proper sanction
