Political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections intensified in Umaisha/Ugya State Constituency of Toto Local Government Area of Nasarawa State on Saturday as the immediate past Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi, commenced grassroots mobilisation for his preferred candidates.
The former Speaker, who visited his hometown of Umaisha, received a massive welcome from residents, supporters, youths, women and political groups who trooped out in large numbers to express solidarity with him.
The visit featured a political rally and mobilisation meeting during which Balarabe Abdullahi addressed the people on the need to prepare for the 2027 elections and make what he described as the right political choices.
Balarabe, while appreciating the people for their continued support after leaving office, urged them to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for another term and other candidates he endorsed on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Through a voice vote, the gathering endorsed Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada for Governor of Nasarawa State, Dr. Faisal Shuaibu for the Nasarawa West Senatorial District and Hon. Mohammed Yarima Albashir for the Nasarawa/Toto Federal Constituency.
However, the former Speaker and his supporters rejected the re-election bid of the incumbent member representing Umaisha/Ugya Constituency in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Hon. Ibrahim Abdullahi Sa’ad, despite his membership of the APC.
The gathering instead endorsed Hon. Mohammed Muntaka of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as its preferred candidate for the State Assembly seat in 2027.
Balarabe Abdullahi reportedly spoke extensively on the qualities and capacities of the candidates he endorsed, while also explaining the reasons behind his opposition to the incumbent lawmaker's return bid.
Several speakers at the event praised the former Speaker for what they described as his continued connection with his constituents and urged him to remain committed to the development of the area.
The gathering also witnessed a major financial gesture from Balarabe Abdullahi, who donated more than N4 million to various political and community groups.
Among the beneficiaries were the women's group, which received N1 million; the youths, N500,000; Good Friday Association, N500,000; Balarabe Media, N300,000; and other groups, including So Uku Balaifi Group and the Elders Forum, which also received various sums.
The former Speaker also unveiled a campaign billboard bearing the images of the candidates he endorsed ahead of the 2027 elections.
The mobilisation is expected to further shape political alignments in Umaisha/Ugya Constituency as political parties and aspirants intensify grassroots activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
