Nasarawa Information Commissioner Seeks Journalists’ Support to Document Sule’s Achievements
Aboki promises weekly government briefings, urges journalists to report projects firsthand

The Nasarawa State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Nnawani Izeekel Aboki, has called on journalists and correspondents in the state to strengthen their support for the administration of Governor Abdullahi A. Sule by giving wider publicity to the government’s achievements.
Aboki made the call during an engagement with members of the Correspondents Chapel, where he stressed the need for journalists to physically inspect government projects and report their findings accurately to the public.
According to him, the administration is approaching the final phase of its tenure, which he described as the closing chapter of the current generation of leadership in the state, ahead of the commencement of what he termed a new generation from next year.
He urged journalists to join government officials on inspection tours, saying that claims about completed projects should be verified on the ground before being reported.
“If he says he has done this, let's go and see what was done, and report it right there,” Aboki said.
The Commissioner also announced plans to introduce weekly government news briefings, aimed at ensuring that journalists have timely and accurate information about activities and developments across the state.
He explained that regular briefings would bridge the information gap between government officials and members of the public, particularly journalists who are not directly within government circles.
Aboki said Governor Sule considers the media critical to the success of his administration and therefore requires the continued support of journalists as the government works to complete its programmes and projects.
He further appealed to journalists and political actors to promote issue-based campaigns ahead of the 2027 general elections, warning against violence, insults and political quarrels.
“It is not a time for fighting, for quarrels and insults. Let's discuss issues and see who is better for our state,” he said.
The Commissioner also expressed condolences to families affected by the Lafia flyover accident, stressing that the tragedy should not be viewed through political or partisan considerations.
He urged political supporters and motorists to exercise caution during the campaign period, particularly when travelling on the state's roads.
“This is not about party; it's about people, citizens of Nasarawa State,” Aboki said, while praying for comfort for families who lost their loved ones.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Correspondents Chapel, Comrade Abubakar Abdullahi, assured the Commissioner of the chapel's support and described his appointment as a journalist-friendly development.
Abdullahi commended the relationship between the Nasarawa State Government and correspondent journalists under Governor Sule, saying that the administration had maintained a cordial relationship with the media.
He, however, appealed to the government to improve its support for correspondent journalists, particularly through equitable access to government advertisements and publicity materials.
The Correspondents Chapel Chairman said journalists whose media headquarters are outside Nasarawa often depend on local support and advertisements to sustain their operations.
He appealed to the Commissioner to ensure that correspondents are carried along in government publicity programmes, especially activities marking the state's forthcoming 30th anniversary.
Abdullahi said such support would encourage journalists to continue promoting the achievements of the state and ensuring that developments in Nasarawa receive national and international visibility.
He commended the Commissioner for his appointment and expressed optimism that his background in journalism would further strengthen the relationship between the government and the media.
The engagement ended with both sides expressing commitment to maintaining a cordial working relationship and improving information flow between the Nasarawa State Government and the media.
