2027: I Remain Authentic, Legal SDP Governorship Candidate in Nasarawa — Danlami Musa Mohammed

The Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Nasarawa State and Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Hon. Danlami Musa Mohammed, has declared that he remains the authentic and legally recognised governorship candidate of the SDP in Nasarawa State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Danlami made the declaration in a press briefing following what he described as a political gathering held at TAAL Conference Hotel, Lafia, on Saturday, September 5, 2026, where the name of one Musa Adamu Angba was purportedly replaced with that of former Inspector-General of Police, IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu (rtd.), as the SDP governorship candidate for the 2027 election.
According to him, the development has generated numerous calls from party officials, members, supporters and well-wishers seeking clarification on the matter.
He said although he had initially decided not to respond to what he described as a “political jamboree” and an exercise in futility, he was compelled to address the issue in order to set the records straight.
“Truth is like smoke, and no matter how long it is suppressed or hidden beneath the ground, it must always and definitely resurface,” he said.
Danlami urged members of the SDP, supporters and well-wishers to remain calm, assuring them that there was no cause for alarm.
He maintained that he possesses substantial documentary evidence to establish his emergence as the governorship candidate of the SDP in Nasarawa State, following a primary election conducted on May 23, 2026, at the SDP State Secretariat along Jos Road, Lafia.
He said the primary election was conducted in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Electoral Act, with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) duly notified and present to monitor the exercise.
The SDP chairman expressed concern over what he described as contradictory actions by INEC, alleging that the electoral body was “blowing hot and cold from the same mouth” over the party's governorship candidature.
According to him, any action that contradicts the outcome of a duly conducted primary election and the provisions of the Electoral Act is liable to be challenged.
He further questioned the basis for replacing the name of Musa Adamu Angba with that of IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu (rtd.), arguing that Angba, to his knowledge, did not participate in the SDP governorship primary election.
“It therefore beats my imagination to hear that his name is being replaced with that of IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu (rtd.) as the governorship candidate of the SDP in Nasarawa State,” Danlami said.
He invoked the established legal principle that “you cannot place something on nothing and expect it to stand,” insisting that any action lacking a valid legal foundation cannot withstand judicial scrutiny.
Danlami called on SDP members, supporters and stakeholders across Nasarawa State and beyond to remain peaceful, firm and steadfast, assuring them that appropriate legal measures would be taken to seek redress in court.
He reiterated that he remains the “authentic and legal SDP governorship candidate” in Nasarawa State pending any lawful determination to the contrary.
