FCC Unveils Reforms to Strengthen Federal Character Compliance, Transparent Recruitment

The Federal Character Commission (FCC) has introduced sweeping reforms aimed at strengthening the enforcement of the Federal Character Principle, promoting transparency in federal recruitment and tackling job racketeering across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
The Federal Commissioner representing Nasarawa State at the Commission, Hon. Halima Ahmadu-Jabiru, said the reforms were initiated by the Commission's Fifth Board under the leadership of its Executive Chairman, Hon. Ayo Hulayat Omidiran.
She explained that a major component of the reforms is the launch of the Commission's official website, where all MDAs intending to recruit are now required to advertise vacancies to guarantee equal access to employment opportunities for qualified Nigerians.
According to her, the website also provides a secure whistleblower platform through which members of the public can confidentially report alleged cases of job racketeering for prompt investigation and necessary action.
Ahmadu-Jabiru further disclosed that MDAs must notify the Commission at least two weeks before conducting recruitment exercises to enable FCC officials monitor the process and ensure strict compliance with the Federal Character Principle.
She stressed that only recruitment exercises conducted in accordance with the law would receive the Commission's Certificate of Compliance, warning that agencies that violate the guidelines could face sanctions, including fines.
The Commissioner also revealed that the FCC has approached the National Assembly to establish a tribunal that would strengthen the enforcement of the Federal Character Act and ensure accountability among defaulting agencies.
She noted that the Commission has continued to intensify sensitization campaigns, interactive engagements and the distribution of its operational handbook to MDAs to deepen understanding and compliance with the Federal Character Principle nationwide.
Ahmadu-Jabiru expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing her as Federal Commissioner and thanked Governor Abdullahi A. Sule for nominating her to represent Nasarawa State on the Commission.
She reaffirmed the Commission's commitment to ensuring fairness, equity and inclusiveness in federal recruitment and appointments in line with the provisions of the Federal Character Principle.
