The Executive Governor of Niger State Mohammed Umaru Bago yesterday commissioned twelve operational vehicles to the Niger State Police Command to enhance the operational capacity of the Command.
Also Governor Umar Bago,along with the State Commissioner of Police CP, Abdullahi Adamu Elleman launched the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU),to strengthen its quick response to violent crimes
The Governor, accompanied by the Deputy Governor, Com. Yakubu Garba, the Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mohammed Abdulmalik Sarkin-Daji, the Commissioner for Homeland Security Barrister Maurice Bello Magaji,and other top government officials, visited the State Police Command Headquarters, Dutsen-Kura, Minna today 27th July 2026, where the commissioning ceremony and inauguration of the specialized unit of the Command.
Speaking at the launching, Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, warmly received the Governor and his entourage.
He expressed profound appreciation for the State Government's sustained support towards enhancing policing and public safety. He commended the Governor for his consistent provision of operational vehicles, logistics, and other resources that have improved operational effectiveness and emergency response capability, recalling that the State Government had earlier donated five operational vehicles to the Command in August 2025 to strengthen policing operations.
The Commissioner of Police informed the Governor that the newly inaugurated Violent Crime Response Unit comprises 218 personnel carefully selected and drawn from tactical formations and Police Divisions across the State.
He stated that the officers had undergone intensive theoretical and practical training on standard operating procedures, contemporary policing techniques in line with global best practices and human rights provisions.
He added the Unit led by CSP Hassan Gimba was established to provide a proactive and specialized response to violent crimes, including armed robbery, banditry, kidnapping, thuggery, communal conflicts, farmer-herder clashes and other emerging security threats confronting the State.
He also appreciated the people of Niger State for their cooperation, timely intelligence, and sustained support, which have continued to contribute significantly to the Command's operational successes.
The CP assured the Governor that the operational vehicles and other logistics provided would be deployed judiciously to maximize operational efficiency and improve public safety.
He reaffirmed the Command's commitment to utilizing the resources effectively in fulfilling its constitutional mandate of protecting lives and property.
The Farmer Governor while commissioning the operational vehicles, stated that the gesture underscored his administration's unwavering commitment to strengthening the operational capacity of security agencies and ensuring a safer environment for all residents of Niger State.
He noted that the vehicles would enhance the mobility, effectiveness and rapid response capability of the newly established Unit in combating violent crimes across the State.
The Governor commended officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force for their resilience, professionalism, and sacrifices in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities.
He also applauded the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu for the strategic initiative of establishing the Violent Crime Response Unit, describing it as a timely intervention towards addressing emerging security challenges through specialized policing.
The Governor assured the Police Command of his administration's continued support and sustained investment in security initiatives aimed at protecting lives, safeguarding property and promoting peace and socio-economic development throughout the State.
While addressing officers of the newly inaugurated VCRU, CP Elleman charged them to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, discipline, integrity, and respect for human rights in the discharge of their duties.
The CP emphasized the need for strict compliance with the provisions of Force Order 237 on the use of firearms and urged them to remain guided by the established operational procedures and the directives of their Commander.
CP Adamu Elleman encouraged the officers to discharge their responsibilities with courage, dedication and accountability while adhering to globally accepted policing standards.
While congratulating the operatives on their inauguration into the specialized Unit CP Elleman expressed confidence in their ability to justify the confidence reposed in them through outstanding performance and effective service delivery in the fight against violent crime across Niger State.
