Nnamdi Kanu Dissolves IPOB Directorate of State, Appoints Chris Nwaọgụ to Lead New Administration
IPOB leader cites alleged welfare failures, internal divisions, and strategic lapses as reasons for dissolving the third Directorate of State administration and inaugurating a new leadership structure

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), , has announced the dissolution of the organisation's third Directorate of State (DOS) administration and the inauguration of a fourth administration to oversee the affairs of the separatist movement.
In a statement issued on Tuesday from Langerfeld, Germany, Kanu appointed Mazi Chris Nwaọgụ, based in the United States, as the new Head of the Directorate of State, charging him with the responsibility of coordinating and managing the day-to-day activities of IPOB worldwide.
According to the statement, the Directorate of State, established in 2012 as the administrative arm of IPOB, has previously been led by Dr. Justin Akujieze, Mazi Uchenna Asiegbu, and Chika Edoziem, who headed the third administration since March 2017.
Kanu said the decision to dissolve the outgoing administration followed what he described as a comprehensive review of its performance during a critical phase of the Biafra restoration campaign.
Among the reasons cited for the dissolution were the alleged failure to adequately address the welfare of detained IPOB members, internal disputes within the movement, weakening of organisational cohesion, and shortcomings in the management of communication platforms.
The statement particularly expressed concern over the plight of detained Biafrans, including those reportedly held at Wawa Military Barracks in Niger State, accusing the outgoing leadership of not giving sufficient attention to their welfare and legal challenges.
Kanu further alleged that internal rivalries, factional disagreements, and organisational distractions weakened the movement's effectiveness and undermined public confidence in its leadership.
To address these concerns, he said the newly inaugurated administration has been mandated to restore unity, strengthen accountability, improve welfare programmes, and enhance communication strategies within the organisation.
The new leadership structure includes appointments across various departments covering finance, welfare, media, continental coordination, diplomacy, and women's affairs.
In a significant organisational reform, Kanu also announced the establishment of an Elders Advisory Council, which will serve as a strategic advisory body positioned between the IPOB leader and the Directorate of State in the movement's hierarchy.
The statement directed all IPOB coordinators, officers, and functionaries worldwide to recognise and cooperate with the new administration under the leadership of Chris Nwaọgụ.
Kanu additionally declared the reinstatement of previously suspended or expelled members, pending any future administrative review by the new Directorate of State.
He urged members and supporters of IPOB to remain disciplined and committed to the movement's objectives, while reaffirming the organisation's pursuit of self-determination and what it described as the restoration of Biafra.
The announcement marks a major leadership shake-up within IPOB and signals a new phase in the organisation's internal restructuring efforts.
