A couple in Minna, have been arraigned before a Minna Chief Magistrate Court number one for allegedly beating up his former wife.
The husband who was a retired director in the Niger State Ministry of Environment was arraigned along with his wife and their son.
Alhaji Usman Garba Ibeto,Balkisu Abubakar and Bilal Usman Garba Ibeto an undergraduate student with the Newgate university,Minna.
They were arraigned on four count charges which bothered on criminal conspiracy,inflicting and verbal psychologica,l emotional intimidation and spouse battery.
According to the Police First Information Report (PFIR), contravened sections 5,17,21 and 22 of Violenc Against Persons Prohibition Law of Niger State 2020.
The charge sheet which read in part: “ on 29th, of May,2026, at about 1300 hours the above mentioned case was refered from Chief Magistrate Court number four Minna.
“ That on the 23rd of May,2026, at about 200 hours, you Usman Garba Ibeto, Balkisu Abubakar and Bilal Usman Garba Ibeto your son,all residence of M.I Wushishi Housing Estate,in Tunga Minna, criminally conspired within yourselves and beat up one Hauwa Ango of the same addres who is your former wife.
“ You people also threatening to deal with the complainant any where they saw her. During Police investigation it revealed that you draged her and beat her during the incident”
It stated.
When the charge sheet were read to them by the presiding Chief Magistrate Murtala Ibrahim Bala,they all pleaded not guilty to the four count charges
At this point the Prosecuting state counsel Maimuna Yusuf Esq,requested for a new date to enable office of the Attorney General to commence full hearing into the matter to enable them prove their against them and she did not object to their bail saying “ bail is at the discretion of the Court”
However,the defense counsel Aminu Abara Esq,applied for their bail on the ground that the four count charges are all bailable in Accordance with the provision of section 88 of the administration of criminal justice act of Niger State,2023.(ACJA)
They were then granted bail in the sum of N500,000 with two reasonable sureties residing within the court jurisdiction.
The case has been adjourned to 8th of July,2026 for mention.
