Ex-Bauchi deputy governor dies at 69

Former Deputy Governor of Bauchi State, Arc. Audu Sule Katagum, the Wazirin Katagum, is dead. He was 69.
His death was announced on Saturday by Shamsuddeen Lukman Abubakar, who served as his digital and creative media aide.
In a statement, Lukman said the former deputy governor died in the early hours of Saturday.
“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Arch. Audu Sule-Katagum, Wazirin Katagum and former Deputy Governor of Bauchi State.
“The deceased passed away in the early hours of Saturday after a life of dedicated service to his community, Bauchi State, and the nation,” the statement read.
He prayed for the repose of the deceased’s soul, asking Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus.
Sule-Katagum served as Chief of Staff at the Bauchi State Government House before he was appointed deputy governor.
He served as deputy governor from 2018 to 2019 under former Governor Mohammed Abubakar.
He has been burried in accordance with Islamic rites.
Meanwhile Bauchi Governor Bala Abdulkadir Muhammad expressed deep sorrow over the death of Arc. Audu Sule Katagum, the Wazirin Katagum and former Deputy Governor of Bauchi State, describing his passing as a monumental loss to the state and the nation.
In a statement issued on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, the Governor said the late elder statesman, who died in the early hours of Saturday at Nizamiye Hospital, Abuja, left behind a legacy of selfless service, integrity, and dedication to humanity.
Governor Bala Muhammad, on behalf of his family, the government, and the people of Bauchi State, conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the Emir of Katagum, the Katagum Emirate Council, and all those affected by the loss.
He described the late Wazirin Katagum as a distinguished professional, accomplished architect, and patriotic son of Bauchi State whose contributions to governance, infrastructure development, and community service would remain indelible.
The Governor recalled with admiration the late Audu Sule Katagum’s tenure as Deputy Governor under former Governor Muhammad Abdullahi Abubakar and his service as Chairman of the Governing Board of Adamu Tafawa Balewa College of Education, Kangere, during the present administration, noting that he discharged his responsibilities with exceptional commitment, wisdom, and decorum.
According to the Governor, the deceased also made remarkable contributions to the physical and infrastructural development of Bauchi State through his expertise as an architect, helping to shape the state’s built environment and laying foundations that would benefit generations to come.
He further extolled the late traditional titleholder for his unwavering commitment to peace, unity, and progress, saying his counsel and leadership earned him widespread respect across political, traditional, and social circles.
Governor Bala Muhammad urged the family, associates, and the people of the Katagum Emirate and Bauchi State to take solace in the exemplary life and enduring accomplishments of the deceased, whose memory and service would continue to inspire future generations.
He prayed Almighty Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the departed, reward his good deeds, and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus.
