Religious and political leaders in Nasarawa State have identified proper parenting and moral upbringing as the most effective solution to the growing rate of immorality in society.

They made the submission on Monday during the naming ceremony of the newborn twins of the Special Adviser to Governor Abdullahi Sule on Legislative Liaison, Hon. Barr. Muhammad Ibrahim Alkali, held at his residence in Lafia.

Speaking at the event, the Nasarawa State APC Chairman, Dr. Aliyu Bello, described poor parental upbringing as a major contributor to moral decadence, urging parents and guardians to take greater responsibility for raising children with sound moral values.

He stressed that both religious and Western education should be given equal priority, noting that such a foundation is essential for producing responsible citizens and future leaders.

Dr. Bello also advised political leaders to exercise restraint in their public comments and discourage supporters from engaging in acts capable of creating unnecessary political tension.

"We must be careful with our utterances, and we must stop empowering youths who display ignorance and bully others. Leadership is ordained by God; no one attains a position by accident," he said.

Earlier, the Deputy Chief Imam of Lafia Central Mosque, Mallam Yusuf Ahmadu, who officiated the naming ceremony, offered prayers for the newborns and urged parents to instill discipline, good morals, and Islamic values in their children to foster a peaceful and egalitarian society.

The twins, a boy and a girl, were named Yasir and Fatima. Their father, Hon. Muhammad Ibrahim Alkali, disclosed that his daughter was named Fatima in honour of his late wife.

The ceremony attracted several dignitaries, including the Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Dr. Danladi Jatau, former Speaker Alhaji Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi, the State Accountant-General, Dr. Musa Ahmed Muhammad, the member representing Lafia North Constituency, Barr. Esson Mairiga, and other prominent personalities.

In his remarks, Hon. Muhammad Ibrahim Alkali expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for the gift of the twins and appreciated family members, friends, political associates, and well-wishers who attended the joyous occasion to celebrate with him.

The colourful event also featured traditional praise singers, who entertained guests throughout the ceremony.
