Nasarawa SDP Dismisses Defection Claims as “Afterthought”

The Nasarawa State chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has reaffirmed the suspension of former governorship candidate, Gaza Jonathan Gbefwi, former Information Minister, Labaran Maku, and Alhaji Adamu Ningah over alleged anti-party activities.
The State Chairman of the party, Hon. Danlami Mohammed Musa, stated this while reacting to reports circulating on social media claiming that the trio had defected from the party before their suspension.
According to him, the affected members were suspended on May 9, 2026, for offences bordering on anti-party activities, insisting that there was no official communication from any of them indicating resignation or defection from the party prior to the disciplinary action.
Hon. Musa described the defection claims as false, misleading, and an afterthought aimed at misleading party supporters and the general public.
He said the party leadership from the ward level to the national hierarchy had not received any formal letter of defection from the suspended members.
The SDP chairman questioned why the alleged defection claims only surfaced after the suspension was announced, maintaining that there was no evidence to support the assertions being circulated on social media platforms.
He therefore urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), relevant institutions, party supporters, and the general public to disregard the claims, insisting that the suspension of the trio remains valid and binding.
Hon. Musa congratulated members of the party and supporters of democracy, describing the development as a victory for the rule of law and internal party discipline within the SDP in Nasarawa State.
