NASARAWA SDP ACCUSES LABARAN MAKU OF DUAL PARTY MEMBERSHIP, INSISTS SUSPENSION STANDS
Party Dismisses Defection Claims by Maku, Gbefwi, Ningah as Political Damage Control

The Nasarawa State chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has accused former Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, of engaging in dual party membership, insisting that his suspension alongside Gaza Jonathan Gbefwi and Adamu Ningah remains valid and binding.
The State Chairman of the party, Hon. Danlami Mohammed Musa, alleged that Maku and the suspended members were involved in anti-party activities while simultaneously maintaining relationships and political alignments outside the SDP, contrary to the party’s constitution and principles.
Musa stated that the leadership of the party viewed the alleged dual allegiance as a serious betrayal capable of undermining the unity, credibility, and electoral strength of the SDP in Nasarawa State.
According to him, the recent claims that the trio had defected before their suspension were nothing more than “political damage control and an afterthought hurriedly manufactured to deceive the public after disciplinary action had already been taken.”
He maintained that no official resignation letter or notification of defection was submitted by Maku or the other suspended members to the ward, local government, state, or national structures of the party before their suspension on May 9, 2026.
The SDP chairman challenged those behind the defection narrative to provide documentary evidence proving that the affected members formally exited the party before sanctions were imposed.
“Maku cannot claim loyalty to the SDP while allegedly operating political interests elsewhere. The party will not tolerate dual membership, indiscipline, or acts capable of sabotaging its stability,” Musa stated.
He further warned that the SDP would not allow any individual, irrespective of political influence or previous public office, to treat the party structure with disregard while attempting to manipulate public opinion through social media narratives.
Musa therefore called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), party supporters, and the general public to ignore the defection claims, insisting that the suspension of the trio remains effective and enforceable.
He added that the action taken by the party leadership was necessary to protect internal democracy, party discipline, and the integrity of the SDP ahead of future political contests in Nasarawa State.
