Nasarawa Gov’t Announces June 13 Coronation, Staff of Office Presentation for Aren Eggon
Historic Coronation Ceremony to Hold After Over Four Decades
The Nasarawa State Government has fixed Saturday, June 13, 2026, for the official presentation of the Staff of Office to the newly selected Aren Eggon, Justice Ahmed Ubangari Alaku I.
The announcement was made in a statement issued by the Central Planning and Coordinating Committee for the Coronation of the Aren Eggon, chaired by the Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Danladi Jatau.
According to the committee, Governor Abdullahi Sule approved the date for the historic coronation ceremony, which will formally usher in the reign of the retired Chief Judge, Justice Ahmed Ubangari Alaku I, as the paramount ruler of the Eggon nation.
The committee recalled that Justice Ubangari was selected by Eggon kingmakers on May 5, 2023, following the demise of the immediate past Aren Eggon, Bala Abaine Angbazo, who died on July 13, 2022.
Before ascending the throne, Justice Ubangari served as Wazirin Eggon during the reign of the late monarch.
The statement described the forthcoming ceremony as historic, noting that it would be the first presentation of a Staff of Office to an Aren Eggon in more than 40 years.
It recalled that the last ceremony was held on February 12, 1983, when former Plateau State Governor, Solomon Lar, presented the Staff of Office to the late Dr. Bala Abaine Angbazo after the stool was upgraded to First Class status in 1982.
The committee stated that the coronation would celebrate the cultural heritage, unity, and traditions of the Eggon people across Nasarawa State, Nigeria, and the diaspora.
It called on Eggon sons and daughters, traditional institutions, political stakeholders, and well-wishers to prepare for what it described as an epoch-making event.
The committee further assured that details on the venue, programme of activities, accommodation, security arrangements, and participation guidelines would be communicated in due course.
The statement was jointly signed by the Chairman of the Central Planning and Coordinating Committee, Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau, and the Alternate Chairman, Alhaji Isiyaku Abdullahi, Galadiman Eggon.
