In Bauchi Senator Sama'ila Kaila loses return bid despite defecting to APC

The incumbent Senator representing Bauchi North, Samaila Kaila, has lost his return bid to the National Assembly after suffering a defeat in the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary elections.
Kaila, who originally won his Senate seat under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before defecting to the APC in 2025, was unseated during the party’s direct primaries.
Announcing the official results, the Chairman of the APC National Assembly Primary Election Committee, Brigadier-General Saidu Abdulhameed (Rtd), declared Ibrahim Muhammad Baba as the winner for the Bauchi North Senatorial District.
Baba secured a landslide victory with 22,744 votes, defeating Kaila, who managed 12,912 votes, and Sirajo Ibrahim Tanko, who finished third with 5,202 votes.
The committee also announced results for the Bauchi South Senatorial District, where Yakubu Shehu Abdullahi clinched the APC ticket. Abdullahi dominated the five-man race with 25,762 votes.
The runner-up, Brigadier-General Abubakar Suleiman Maikano (Rtd), finished far behind with 6,870 votes. Other contestants included Hon. Shehu Aliyu Dass (6,648 votes), Rt. Hon. Abdulmumini Kundak (4,975 votes), and Ibrahim Usman (4,922 votes).
In the Bauchi Federal Constituency race, Jibrin Abdullahi Sirajo emerged victorious after scoring 13,190 votes to defeat four other opponents.
Notably, Idris Isa Yuguda, the son of the former Governor of Bauchi State, lost his bid for the ticket after coming in a distant second with 4,053 votes. The remaining contestants, Salisu Sabo, Bidi’atu Inuwa, and Muhammad Mustapha, polled 1,410, 1,350, and 1,214 votes respectively.
