Alleged Arrest of Retired General Garus Gololo Sparks Reactions on Social Media
Claims Link Detention to Senate President Akpabio as Supporters Demand Release
A statement currently circulating across social media platforms has alleged that retired Major General Haruna Garba Gololo, popularly known as Garus Gololo, was arrested in Abuja by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) alongside officials of the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC).
According to the statement, the retired military officer was reportedly arrested at about 6:00 p.m. on Saturday at Grand Square Supermarket in Abuja.
The message further claimed that the operation was carried out under the directive of Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
The statement, which has since gone viral online, called on Nigerians to pray for the quick release and safety of the retired General.
“We pray to Almighty Allah to grant him quick release and safety. Ameen,” the statement read.
The message was signed by Abubakar Kabir Jumare, identified as Special Assistant on Special Duties and Humanitarian Services to Major General Haruna Garba Gololo.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official confirmation from the Nigeria Police Force, the National Council on Climate Change, or the office of the Senate President regarding the alleged arrest.
