Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has dissolved the Borno State Executive Council, sacking all commissioners with immediate effect in a move widely seen as part of early preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The governor directed the affected commissioners to hand over the affairs of their respective ministries to permanent secretaries on or before April 3, 2026, to ensure continuity in governance.
According to available information, the decision is aimed at creating a level playing ground for appointees who may wish to contest elective positions, thereby avoiding any conflict of interest.
Governor Zulum expressed appreciation to the outgoing commissioners for their service, dedication, and contributions to the development of the state during their tenure.
Meanwhile, a similar development has unfolded in Cross River State, where Governor Bassey Edet Otu has directed all members of the State Executive Council and political appointees with ambitions for the 2027 elections to resign.
The directive, issued during a State Executive Council meeting, underscores the administration’s commitment to discipline, transparency, and integrity in governance.
Governor Otu emphasized that no political appointee seeking elective office would be allowed to remain in office beyond the stipulated deadline, insisting that such measures are necessary to promote fairness and accountability in the political process.
