Maku Bows to Pressure, Dumps PDP Amid Prolonged Crisis
Former Information Minister cites party instability, consults widely before decision

Former Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, has formally resigned his membership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), citing persistent internal crises and mounting pressure from supporters to pursue a new political direction.
In a resignation letter dated March 11, 2026, and addressed to the PDP Chairman in his Wakama ward of Nassarawa Eggon Local Government Area, Maku said his decision takes immediate effect.
The former minister, fondly known as Mutumin Kirki, explained that his exit became unavoidable due to the “regrettable crisis” that has continued to bedevil the party.
He added that growing calls from his supporters and stakeholders urging him to chart a new political course also influenced his decision.
Maku, who served Nasarawa State as Commissioner and later Deputy Governor between 1999 and 2007, disclosed that the move followed extensive consultations with his family, political associates, party leaders, traditional rulers, and a broad base of loyal supporters.
Describing the decision as difficult but necessary, he appreciated the PDP for the trust and opportunities accorded him over the years.
He, however, pledged to continue upholding shared ideals and working with like-minded stakeholders in the interest of the people.
The development has since generated widespread reactions, with the news gaining traction across social media platforms, signaling potential political realignments ahead of future elections.
