The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has issued a public clarification regarding the payment of $100,000 to legal practitioners handling the defence of its detained leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Head of IPOB Finance Directorate, Madam Nnennaya Anya, disclosed that the payment was made to accounts designated by renowned constitutional lawyer Mike Ozekhome, in accordance with instructions from the IPOB leader.
According to the statement, the transfer was executed in two separate installments. The first installment amounted to $80,000, while the second installment totaled $20,000, bringing the total payment to $100,000.
Madam Anya explained that the transaction was carried out strictly under the directive of Kanu and was intended to support legal services connected with his defence.
She stated that the funds were released as part of IPOB’s commitment to securing justice for its leader in the ongoing legal proceedings.
“The transfer was duly authorized and executed solely for purposes related to the legal representation and defence of our Supreme Leader,” the statement noted.
The Finance Directorate further emphasized that all documentation and financial records relating to the payment are properly maintained and available for verification by relevant structures within the organization.
The clarification, she said, was issued in the spirit of transparency and accountability, and to address speculation or misinformation circulating about the payment.
The statement concluded with a message reaffirming IPOB’s commitment to its cause and its continued pursuit of justice and self-determination.
Madam Anya signed the statement on behalf of the Indigenous People of Biafra on March 5, 2026.
