Igbo Spiritual Mothers Visit Nnamdi Kanu in Sokoto Prison, Demand Immediate Release
Delegation led by former Anambra Commissioner, Chief Mrs. Oliaku Chika Ibeneme, vows nationwide advocacy and engagement with traditional rulers.

A delegation of Igbo spiritual leaders under the umbrella of Ndi Nne Mụọ Ala-Igbo has visited the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, at the Sokoto Correctional Centre, demanding his immediate and unconditional release.
The delegation, led by Chief Mrs. Oliaku Chika Ibeneme, a former Commissioner for Works and Housing in Anambra State and revered as Nne Mmanwu Igbo Niine (Mother of All Igbo Masquerades), said the visit was undertaken on behalf of the spiritual mothers of Igboland.
In a statement issued after the visit, the group expressed solidarity with Kanu, describing him as a “cherished son” of the Igbo nation and assuring him of their continued prayers and spiritual support.
Chief Mrs. Ibeneme reportedly offered prayers and invoked ancestral blessings during the visit, presenting symbolic gifts to Kanu as a sign of maternal encouragement and spiritual backing.
According to the delegation, the mission symbolizes the collective spiritual guardianship of the Igbo people, both living and departed, stressing that the spiritual mothers remain committed to the pursuit of justice, peace, and equity.
The group also disclosed plans to expand its advocacy efforts beyond the visit by engaging traditional rulers, paramount leaders, and other influential stakeholders across Nigeria.
They explained that the planned consultations are aimed at promoting dialogue and mobilizing support toward securing Kanu’s release and fostering lasting harmony.
The delegation further called on sons and daughters of Ala-Igbo as well as well-meaning Nigerians to unite in prayers and peaceful advocacy for the resolution of the matter.
Nnamdi Kanu, leader of IPOB, remains in custody amid ongoing legal proceedings, with his detention continuing to attract reactions from socio-cultural organisations and political stakeholders across the country.
