President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reportedly directed the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to prepare his handover notes, signaling an imminent leadership transition at the helm of the Nigeria Police Force.

According to credible security sources, the directive was issued following a meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday, where senior officials confirmed that the police chief had been instructed to commence the process of stepping aside from office.

Sources further disclosed that Assistant Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu, currently in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex in Alagbon, Lagos, is expected to assume leadership pending formal confirmation.

Insiders revealed that the transition process has already begun, with the outgoing police chief reportedly asked to focus on his health amid concerns over medical challenges.

However, there has been no official statement from the Police Service Commission or the Presidency confirming the development as of press time.

The reported move, if confirmed, would mark a significant shift in the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force, coming at a time when the Federal Government continues to implement reforms aimed at strengthening internal security and public confidence in law enforcement institutions.

Observers say the appointment of a new police chief could shape ongoing efforts to address insecurity, modernize policing operations, and enhance national stability.
