Tinubu Renews NSCDC Commandant-General Audi’s Tenure for Another Five Years
Reappointment Affirms Confidence in Corps’ Leadership, Security Reforms

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the renewal of the appointment of the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, for another five-year tenure, effective February 27, 2026.
The renewal, announced in a statement signed by the NSCDC National Public Relations Officer, Assistant Commandant Babawale Afolabi, reaffirmed the Federal Government’s confidence in the leadership of Professor Audi and the strategic transformation witnessed in the Corps over the past five years.
According to the statement, the President’s decision reflects recognition of the Commandant-General’s reforms, operational expansion, and institutional discipline, which have repositioned the NSCDC as a key player in Nigeria’s internal security architecture.
Professor Audi, who assumed office in 2021, has led the Corps in intensifying the protection of critical national assets and infrastructure, strengthening enforcement against economic sabotage, and enhancing the regulation of private guard companies across the country.
The Corps has also expanded intelligence-driven operations and reinforced inter-agency collaboration, significantly boosting its effectiveness in combating threats such as banditry, kidnapping, terrorism, illegal mining, and vandalism.
President Tinubu, in renewing the appointment, charged the Commandant-General to consolidate existing gains and further elevate the Corps’ operational capacity to meet emerging security challenges nationwide.
The renewed tenure is expected to usher in a new phase of institutional growth, with emphasis on technological advancement, personnel welfare, infrastructural development, and stronger community engagement.
Professor Audi, who joined the NSCDC as a volunteer in 1996 and rose through the ranks, has been widely credited for providing transformative leadership and strengthening the Corps’ role as a frontline security agency.
The reappointment signals continuity of vision and stability of command, positioning the NSCDC to play an even more strategic role in safeguarding national stability and protecting Nigeria’s critical infrastructure.
