NYSC Coordinator Urges Corps Members to Foster Peaceful Ties With Host Communities

Batch ‘A’ corps members, cautions against misuse of social media, insecurity

The Nasarawa State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs. Salamatu Muhammad, has urged corps members deployed to the state to cultivate harmonious relationships with their host communities throughout their service year.
Mrs. Muhammad gave the charge on Tuesday during the low-key closing ceremony of the 2026 Batch ‘A’ orientation course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Keffi Local Government Area of the state.
She expressed satisfaction with the conduct and discipline displayed by the corps members during the three-week orientation exercise, describing it as a clear indication of their readiness to make meaningful impact wherever they are posted.
The coordinator urged the corps members to accept their postings in good faith, settle down promptly and integrate peacefully with their host communities, stressing the importance of mutual respect and cooperation.
“I urge you to contribute meaningfully to the lives of your host communities, respect their religion, customs and traditions, and live peacefully with everyone throughout your service year,” she said.
Mrs. Muhammad also encouraged the corps members to maximize the skills acquired during the orientation programme, noting that the empowerment initiatives were designed to make them self-reliant and job creators rather than job seekers.
She further tasked them with identifying the pressing needs of their host communities and executing viable Community Development Service (CDS) projects capable of improving living conditions and promoting sustainable development.
On the use of social media, the NYSC coordinator warned corps members against rumour peddling, hate speech and misinformation, advising them to channel their online activities towards self-development, national unity, peace and prosperity.
She cautioned against speculations on NYSC-related matters, urging corps members to rely on official NYSC platforms, including the scheme’s website, verified social media handles, as well as their Zonal and Local Government Inspectors for accurate information.
Mrs. Muhammad also emphasized the importance of security consciousness, warning against unauthorized journeys and association with persons of questionable character.
“You must always carry your NYSC identity card, wear your NYSC uniform regularly, move in groups where necessary and adhere strictly to the security tips provided. Above all, put your trust and confidence in God,” she advised.
The ceremony marked the formal end of the orientation exercise, as corps members prepare to proceed to their places of primary assignment across Nasarawa State.
