The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has announced plans to partner with the Nigerian Armed Forces to enhance skills development and training for retiring military officers in line with modern trends.
Director General of the NDE, Silas Ali Agara, revealed this during a courtesy visit by the Commandant of the Armed Forces Resettlement Centre Lagos, Air Vice Marshal Nnaemeka Ignatius Ilo, at the NDE Headquarters in Abuja.
Agara stated that while the Armed Forces Resettlement Centre is doing a commendable job in providing necessary skills, such skills need to be aligned with global best practices, particularly in ICT and soft skills development.
He assured the centre of NDE's support to ensure a smooth transition for retiring officers into the civil world.
The NDE DG praised the Nigerian Armed Forces for establishing the centre, describing it as a strategic policy that seeks to address the scourge of unemployment in the country.
He also commended the new Commandant for introducing reforms to the centre's training programmes, making it a hub for entrepreneurship development for its personnel.
Earlier, the Commandant of the centre, Air Vice Marshal Nnaemeka Ignitious Ilo, explained that the visit was part of his familiarisation tour to foster greater synergy with government agencies having similar mandates.
He stated that the centre's mandate is to train and equip retiring military officers for a smooth transition into civilian life, requiring civil training and orientation to adapt to the wider world.
The Commandant was accompanied to the visit by some top management of the Armed Forces Resettlement Centre Lagos.
