The Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Dr. Danladi Jatau, has called on Nigerians to embrace patriotism, positive attitudinal change, peace, unity and unwavering support for government at all levels as the country enters the New Year 2026.
Dr. Jatau, the number three citizen of Nasarawa State, made the call during his New Year message while visiting his hometown, Angiri, in Kokona Local Government Area, where he celebrated with his kinsmen and attended a church service.
He emphasized that national and state development can only thrive when citizens support constituted authorities and work collectively in the spirit of unity, irrespective of ethnic, religious or political differences.
The Speaker urged the people of Nasarawa State to appreciate the state’s cosmopolitan nature, stressing that unity in diversity remains the key to achieving the aspirations of the founding fathers of the state.
The New Year celebration in Angiri was marked by jubilation, church services and cultural displays, as the community warmly welcomed their son home for the festive occasion.
Delivering a sermon at the church service, Pastor Bature Komi Mallo of ECWA Angiri, who took his Bible reading from Second Kings Chapter Six, spoke on the topic “The Purpose of Living”, urging worshippers to remain devoted to God, irrespective of their social status.
During the visit, the people of Bassa District used the opportunity to appeal to Governor Abdullahi Sule to construct the road linking Dare–Bassa–Angiri to Garaku, the headquarters of Kokona Local Government Area, citing its socio-economic importance.
Responding, Dr. Jatau expressed optimism that Governor Abdullahi Sule would grant the request and ensure the construction of the road before the end of his tenure.
At his residence, the Speaker hosted community leaders, politicians and various socio-political groups who paid him New Year homage. Some of the groups also urged him to contest for the House of Representatives seat for Keffi–Kokona–Karu Federal Constituency in 2027.
Addressing youths, Dr. Jatau advised them to embrace skills acquisition and self-reliance in view of the scarcity of white-collar jobs, noting that technological advancement has reshaped opportunities across the globe.
In his New Year message, the Speaker also expressed heartfelt condolences to the Eggon Nation and the entire Nasarawa State over the demise of Senator Godiya Akwashiki, who represented the Northern Zone of the state, praying for the repose of his soul and for God to forgive his shortcomings.
The Speaker’s visit to Angiri featured several engagements with community leaders, political stakeholders and interest groups, reinforcing his message of unity, development and collective responsibility in the New Year.
