The Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Dr. Danladi Jatau, alongside Christian clerics, has called on Nigerians to amend their ways with God and humanity and to embrace selfless service, as the remains of late Mrs. Saraya Danbasa Vani were laid to rest in Garaku, Kokona Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
Late Mama Saraya Danbasa Vani, mother of Mrs. Monica Labah Daniel, Deputy Director, Store, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, was buried on Friday amid tears, eulogies, and glowing tributes from family members, government officials, clergy, and well-wishers.
The funeral service was held at ECWA Bishara 1 Church, Garaku, where mourners described the deceased as a devoted Christian, community leader, and a woman who dedicated her life to the service of humanity. Until her death, Mama Saraya was also the PDP Woman Leader in Kokona Local Government Area.
Speaking at the funeral mass, Dr. Danladi Jatau described the late Mama Saraya as a woman whose life was worthy of emulation.
“I want to sincerely condole with the family. This loss is not only for the family but for myself and the entire people of Kokona Local Government. Mama was good to me and to everyone. She was truly a mother to all, and we will greatly miss her,” the Speaker said.
Dr. Jatau emphasized that death is inevitable for all, urging Nigerians to live purposeful lives anchored on selfless service and compassion for others.
“Death is a necessary path for everyone. No one knows when it will come.
This is why we must serve humanity selflessly and live lives that will speak for us when we are gone,” he added.
Delivering the sermon, Reverend Bitrus Kaya admonished believers to reconcile with God and fellow human beings, reminding the congregation that death can come at any time, regardless of one’s status or influence.
He urged Christians to love one another, live upright lives, and remain good ambassadors of society at all times.
The final interment of the deceased took place at her residence in Garaku.
Management and staff of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly paid glowing tributes to the late Mama Saraya.
The delegation was led by the Deputy Clerk of the Assembly, Mr. Paul Okugya, alongside Permanent Member III, Nasarawa State House of Assembly Service Commission, Isah K. Obagu.
Other dignitaries present included the Commissioner for Education, Hon. John D.W. Manman, the Chairman of Kokona Local Government Area, and the Member representing Akwanga South Constituency in the State Assembly, Hon. Yusuf Chumbaya, among many others, who all paid their last respects.
