The Nasarawa State Government has made provision for the construction of the long-awaited Bassa Road in the 2026 budget, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Dr. Danladi Jatau, has disclosed.
Dr. Jatau, who represents Kokona West Constituency, made this known on Monday while receiving stakeholders from Bassa District of Kokona Local Government Area during a courtesy visit to his office in Lafia.
The Speaker expressed confidence that Governor Abdullahi Sule would ensure the completion of the road project before the expiration of his tenure in 2027, stressing that the governor has consistently demonstrated commitment to his promises.
“By God’s grace, Bassa Road will be constructed by His Excellency, Engr. Abdullahi Sule. The governor has always promised that the road will be done before the end of his tenure, and as a leader of his word, he will fulfil it,” Jatau said.
He noted that the construction of the road would significantly enhance agricultural activities, boost revenue generation and improve socio-economic development in Bassa District and its environs.
During the visit, the stakeholders formally endorsed Dr. Jatau to contest for the House of Representatives seat of Keffi/Karu/Kokona Federal Constituency in the 2027 general elections. In response, the Speaker openly declared his intention to vie for the seat.
“From today, January 26, 2026, I have answered the call to contest for the Keffi/Karu/Kokona Federal Constituency seat in 2027. Leadership comes from God, and I urge you all to continue praying for my success,” he stated.
Jatau thanked the people for their continued support since his election to the House of Assembly, describing their backing as a major source of encouragement. He highlighted his achievements in project execution, employment facilitation, empowerment programmes and appointments for constituents.
The Speaker also commended the people of Bassa District for living in peace and unity despite their diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds, citing harmonious coexistence among Eggon, Mada, Hausa/Fulani, Tiv, Gwandara and other groups.
“I appreciate the inter-marriages and peaceful coexistence among our people. Let us continue to live together in unity and peace, irrespective of our affiliations,” he urged.
He further pledged sustained quality representation and the attraction of more developmental projects to Kokona West Constituency. Jatau also expressed gratitude to the stakeholders for their contributions toward his political aspiration, including the donation of 2,000 T-shirts, caps and campaign banners.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Mr. Shuaibu Salihu Salau, said the visit was to appreciate the Speaker for his impactful leadership and to formally endorse him for the House of Representatives seat.
Salau praised Jatau’s contributions to human capital and infrastructure development in Bassa District, including the construction of a police outpost, primary schools and classrooms at Government Secondary School, Bassa.
“You have done well in employment, empowerment and other aspects of humanity. We are proud of your leadership style, and this is why we are endorsing you for the Keffi/Karu/Kokona Federal Constituency seat in 2027,” Salau said.
He assured the Speaker of the stakeholders’ readiness to mobilise support across Kokona and other local government areas ahead of the 2027 elections, while appealing for accelerated construction of Bassa Road, more employment opportunities, empowerment programmes and additional development projects.
