Former Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of unlawfully deducting ₦100 billion monthly from Nigeria’s Federation Account, describing the alleged action as a gross constitutional violation and an impeachable offence.
Speaking during an interview aired on Arise Television, El-Rufai claimed that the deductions have been ongoing for over 15 months, amounting to an estimated ₦1.5 trillion, allegedly withdrawn without the approval of the National Assembly or any known constitutional backing.
According to the former governor, the purported deductions represent a serious breach of fiscal governance and undermine the principles of transparency and accountability enshrined in the Constitution.
“Every month, President Bola Tinubu deducts ₦100 billion from the Federation Account. This is unconstitutional and an impeachable offence,” El-Rufai declared.
El-Rufai further called on the National Assembly, anti-graft agencies, and other relevant oversight institutions to urgently investigate the allegations, warning that silence or inaction could embolden future administrations to act outside constitutional limits.
The comments have since ignited intense public debate, dominating political discourse across social media platforms and news outlets, with many Nigerians questioning the management of public finances and the scope of presidential authority.
