The Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB) has announced plans to host a comprehensive Basic Education Summit aimed at tackling key challenges and improving learning outcomes across the state.
NSUBEB Executive Chairman, Dr. Kassim Mohammed-Kassim, disclosed this during a press briefing at the board’s headquarters in Lafia, noting that the summit will bring together education stakeholders from within and outside the country to develop sustainable solutions for the sector.
According to him, the board’s recent assessment revealed numerous operational gaps, including poor school infrastructure, shortage of chairs, inadequate teaching personnel, staff truancy, and improper teacher placement.
He stated that the board has begun implementing corrective measures.
Dr. Mohammed-Kassim said Governor Abdullahi Sule has approved the procurement of 30,000 chairs to improve classroom comfort, while 1,900 administrative staff have been redeployed to classrooms to boost manpower.
Another 1,000 teachers will soon be deployed to address shortages across public schools.
The summit is expected to assemble policymakers, traditional leaders, teachers, parents, and development partners to chart a fresh course for strengthening basic education in Nasarawa State.
