Two prominent youth-based organisations — the National Association of Nigerian Colleges of Education Students (NANCES) and the Nigeria Youth Mentorship and Entrepreneurship Forum (NYMEF) — have called on government at all levels to urgently intervene in the long-neglected road leading to the Kaduna State College of Education (KSCOE), Gidan Waya.
Speaking on behalf of both groups, Comrade Ishaya Ezra, Executive CMC Chairman of NANCES Kaduna State Axis, Secretary General of NYMEF Kaduna State Chapter, and former SUG President of KSCOE Gidan Waya (2020–2021), decried the over 30-year abandonment of the road, describing it as a symbol of the wider infrastructure deficit in Kaduna State.
Comrade Ishaya expressed disappointment that an institution responsible for producing thousands of teachers continues to operate under such deplorable conditions.
“As a product of the Kaduna State College of Education Gidan Waya, I am compelled to demand accountability from our leaders. It is unacceptable that an institution of this magnitude is subjected to such neglect,” he said.
He noted that during his visits to several state-owned colleges of education across the country, none faced the level of infrastructural decay witnessed at KSCOE Gidan Waya.
He contrasted the situation with institutions such as Kaduna State University and Kaduna Polytechnic, which enjoy well-maintained access roads and modern facilities.
Describing the situation as a clear case of policy neglect and unfair allocation of state resources, Comrade Ishaya lamented that Kaduna — a state that prides itself as the Centre of Learning — should not allow such disparity to persist.
“As a former student leader, I have witnessed the devastating impact of this infrastructure deficit on students, staff, and the host community.
The dust-filled roads, frequent accidents, and health hazards are all indicators of a deeper problem demanding urgent government intervention,” he added.
He therefore called on Governor Uba Sani and the Senator representing Southern Kaduna, Barr. Sunday Marshall Katung, to prioritize the construction and maintenance of the access road, stressing that the college deserves dignity, respect, and equitable infrastructure.
“We will not be silenced or ignored. We will continue to raise our voices until our demands are met and our institution receives the attention it deserves.
Let us unite to build a better Kaduna State where every institution can thrive and contribute to national development,” he concluded.
